Which is the better title?

Which title do you prefer for this movie?

City Of The Walking Dead is a bit of a misnomer as the creatures do more running, driving, and flying than walking.

Nightmare City gives away the ending.

Invasion Of The Atomic Vampires is, for me, the best title for this movie. It basically rolls up the entire premise into one concise bit of information without tipping the ending of the movie.

Nightmare City is better, way cooler and more original than -of the dead that's been used to death.

You're sure it wasn't that retarded kid, Timmy, up the street?

It's weird. When I owned a copy of "City of the Walking Dead" on VHS, I didn't really care for it. But when I picked up a copy of "Nightmare City" on DVD years later, I actually kind of dig it.

Funny - I had the exact same experience. I thought this film was a total dog when watching the old moldy-smelling VHS as a rental from the video store with the awkward and exploitive-sounding title CITY OF THE WALKING DEAD. The ending for me the first time was just beyond ridiculous as well.

However years later once I caught it on DVD all cleaned up and framed like it's supposed to be (anamorphic) and with the prophetic NIGHTMARE CITY title, I not only warmed up to it but have been quite on-an-off obsessed with it all through the years. Sort of like that ugly duckling girl from High School who grew up to be a beautiful swan. This film however is firmly a guilty pleasure... not anything I feel I could personally show anyone aside from ironic fans of bad cinema like THE ROOM etc.

Yes.. that was the one I first saw.. Continental Video I believe.. they had most of the explicit gore big box vhs boxes. Man.. the early days of VHS and of Dvd saw all kinds of stuff I had either never heard of or only saw mentioned in an old Famous Monsters or Fangoria mag.. and the local BIG independent vhs movie rental stores were making a fortune.. I copied damn near ALL of the movies I rented.. and when they were for sale I bought the reallly good ones.. (blood feast, 2000 maniacs, etc..) Was so happy to see MANIAC uncut and get a copy of Pieces for my own.. oh man.. those were the days.. 1982-86..

Great scene when they burst in on the operating room..

heres the box.. if it isnt blocked..

I love those clamshell cases too, I actually collect the ones for the old Warner Bros VHS's. I haven't gotten my hands on the more obscure distributors.

Yes I share your experience of seeing those graphic video covers, like for the horror movies THE NIGHT GOD SCREAMED and THE KILLER BEES. Maybe THE SAVAGE BEES I don't know but they kicked ass. They were in a store called Mike's Video Outlet and for twenty years had those original clamshell cases. Then around 2000 the store had to go and the thrift store next door expanded their business into Mike's old space. I recently volunteered for that thrift place and I see that they still have the carpet with the video store design on the floor. Man I miss Mike's

I like the original Italian title the best: "Incubo Sulla Citta Contaminata," which roughly translated means Nightmare in the Contaminated City. That one's the best.

reply

"Quarantine of a Contaminated City", actually.

My preferred title would be Attack of the Meatloaf People.
