Savage deserved an Oscar

I've been sick and disabled most all of my life and no performance has ever captured the physical and psychological effects of disability like John Savage does in "Inside Moves". Daniel Day-Lewis in "My Left Foot", Mary McDonnell in "Passion Fish" are excellent (the former for performance, the latter for the script) but didn't capture it as well as Savage. This movie is must-see for anyone disabled or who knows/cares-for-and-or-about someone who is disabled.

I'm not disabled, but I totally agree. Besides, he captured the "inside" disability just as well, and that is something I do know something about personally. :)
Great performance by the whole cast but I agree Savage stands out as Oscar-worthy.

I am right with you Tabby- hopefully, they will release it on DVD someday. Every once in a while I'm surprised by a studio that releases a movie (like Billy Budd w/Peter Ustinov) that has long languished. Perhaps this will be one of the next ones.

I've never been a John Savage fan, but his performance in this movie is extraordinary. Definitely the best work he's ever done. The entire supporting cast was exceptional too.

the scene where Savage tells his friend off in the basketball gym was amazing! Man John Savage performance was brilliant...

All of you are right! this movie is a classic-great acting, great story and very uplifting! The first time i saw this movie i was 11 yrs. old and didnt really think i would like it. When it was over, i truly cared for the characters and remembered the movie ever since. Really an underrated movie!

that one scene where Savage tells them of his suicide attempt was just so full of emotion. and their reaction was just as emotional. you could see the hurt on all their faces and wondering why, why would you do this to yourself. I just received the DVD and watched it the moment I received it. just a great movie. and that scene where Savage confronts his "best friend" at the game was spellbounding.

Have you seen harold russell's performance in "The best years of our lives"? Even better and Russell consequentally plays in this film as the wings charcter.

I also loved the way Savage played the role with a lot of passion and effort. His body changes a little in some scenes but he did do a great job.

Savage was brilliant. His Roary was realized as a totally complex character.

I never saw "My Left Foot", but I liked Mary Steenburgen in "Passion Fish". I love that movie.

Honour thy parents. They were hip to the groove too once you know.

there was the moment they ask Rory how he got like he is and he tells them he tried to kill himself, the emotion there when he says that he tried is so authentic the nervous hiccup of emotion, he is a great actor who does this level of emotion so well

agree with all on this thread - forgot completely about this movie (saw on HBO also shortly after it came out) until looking up David Morse on here. this movie has outstanding performances and a great story, compelling, gut honest and completely believable. drag it's not on on DVD, I would snatch it in a second. also highly recommend "My Left Foot," DDL is amazing in that. Got "Last of the Mohicans" for Christmas but want to read the book first!

It is on DVD now. Came out last year.

I'm really glad Diana Scarwid got an Oscar nom for this, because that helped keep this great little movie from falling totally into obscurity. She's also really good.

Savage definitely deserved some attention. No one was beating Robert De Niro for RAGING BULL (or should have), but a nomination would have been nice. A nod for David Morse would've been appreciated; such an assured performance in one's debut is no small feat, and in the years since he's racked up quite a career. And this film demonstrates how much he deserves it.
