David Morse

So, I'm checking out this movie on Showtime right now and I kept looking at David Morse's character "Jerry Maxwell" lying in the tub and I'm like, "I know that guy from another movie." Sure enough it is David Morse from The Green Mile with Tom Hanks. The thing though is that I recognized him by his eyes. I was like, "I know those eyes." Everybody always comments on his eyes. So, I guess they are memorable! I'm a female by the way, so I definitely took notice. :)

I was an aspiring writer in L.A. in 1980, and worked as a waiter in a restaurant called the "Sports Deli" in Century City. One day they sat a tall young man in a booth in my station. I went up to him to take his order - and I found that I couldn't stop looking at him! Those eyes! (And I am a - straight - male)
He was very polite - soft spoken. I inquired if he was an actor, and he told me that he was. I asked what he had done, and he told me that he had a film coming out - "Inside Moves." Later that afternoon I had just left work and I saw him again at the top of some concrete steps just outside the restaurant - he was simply striking - and I was sure that he would be a star.

A few weeks later I saw the film, and not only was David great in his role, but it also had Harold Russell playing the character "Wings." I was - and always will be - a huge fan of "The Best Years of Our Lives," which stars Russell as a vet returning home without his hands, a role for which he won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. "Inside Moves" was the first film that Russell had appeared in since 1946. So for me it was a double treat, and this Richard Donner treasure will always have a special place in my heart.

What a great story! I always liked this film, and I especiallly loved Morse and Savage in it.

Honour thy parents. They were hip to the groove too once you know.

Outsdrfilm,

Inside Moves is one of my favorite movies. I never meet anyone else who has seen it. Just like Psych-Out. Not a favorite, but no one's ever seen that one either.

You really nailed it when you described David Morse (27 years old in his first role) as "simply striking". I saw this movie in 1981 and was an instant Morse fan. I've loved him in so many of his roles. St. Elsewhere, Hearts In Atlantis, The Green Mile, The Crossing Guard, House; I could go on and on.

The only other actor I've seen that got to me in the same way was Vincent D'Onofrio. Both he and Morse happen to be 6'4". D'Onofrio (at 34 yrs old)in Crooked Hearts(1991)was breathtaking and his shirtless body amazing.

Especially notable because he gained 70 lbs to appear in Full Metal Jacket. He went from 210 to 280 and lost it all in 9 months. The movie Crooked Hearts was made four years after he lost that weight and his body will stop you dead in your tracks.

Morse and D'Onofrio are both smokin hot.

Sorry I got off track there.....I happen to be a-straight-woman ;-)

I just love David Morse. I especially liked him on "St. Elsewhere"

Yeah, big fan... Playing icon George Washington (in the JOHN ADAMS series) is a tall order for any actor... DM pulls it off pretty well. And he was so menacingly cold as Mr. Turner in DISTURBIA. He's got chops!

reply

Funny you mention it, but I just recently watched Disturbia all the way through and there he was again! LOL

He was amazing in Dancer in the Dark.
