Woman with the black cat

When we are first introduced to Mark in Rome while he is attendng class, a large focus is given to a mysterious woman who looks shady (and hotter) as hell; she soon leaves with a black cat. I thought she would be seen again but she never was; am I missing something? Who was she? Was she supposed to be the Mother of Shadows? She was strangely hot, but I fail to see why she was there. Can someone help me?

I believe she is suppsed to be the Mother of Tears from the third film.

By the way, the cat is not black.. it'a a beefy beige furball.

No. The Mother of Shadows (Mater Tenebrarum) lives in New York. That one is The Mother of Tears (Mater Lachrymarum) who lives in Rome. And we do see her again in the movie, Mark sees her in a cab outside the building after Sara has been killed, once again, staring at him.

It's a shame that the third part of the trilogy wasn't made back in the mid 80s as opposed to the mid 00s. I love both Suspiria and Inferno whilst Mother of Tears is a bit of dumb fun, no where near the level of the first two films.

She would have been an interesting Mater Lachrymarum. Ania Pieroni has very striking eyes, she also played the book theif and first murder victim in Tenebrae (1982) and Ann the babysitter in The House by the Cemetery (1981).
