Only film I've walked out of

In all my life, I've only walked out of one film. This was it. It was so horribly stupid, I just couldn't take watching it.

Well, I was not around when this came out, but I have it and I personally think it's a fine movie. I'm a big fan of Marty Feldman and I think he's a really underrated actor and comedian. I know this movie, by popular opinion when it came out was considered very very bad, but from what I've seen on reviews of it from people of this generation, people seem to think it's either "okay" or "quite good". Especially when I look at movies that have come out in my lifetime and are considered "classic" or just soo amazing, when in reality to me, they're crap hahaha. It's deff not "typical" Marty Feldman, but that's another reason I like it. But, I don't know to each their own. It seems it was considered a real flop when it came out, so that's probably the popular opinion. But, I personally thought it was good. More of an "awww" movie than a "ha ha ha!" movie, in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong, I thought Marty Feldman was a very funny guy but this movie not only was a flop it was just bad comedy. It just wasn't funny and I'm the kind of guy that will laugh at just about anything, i.e. SuperTroopers, Beerfest, Jackass, etc. But this movie just was not funny at all.

maybe the name of andy kaufman's character is a hint to why it was made.

Armageddon T Thunderbird

the movie was ahead of its time! that's why recent reviews "get it" and give a more favorable opinion. ;)

Good point! The sad thing is that just five years after Marty died...and seven years after the film...1987 there was that big religious guy scam where all the country sent him money or some stuff...i forget the exact details but i recently saw it on a show about the 1980s...and all I thought was "look...he was RIGHT!" ya know? Maybe as a comedy the film doesn't ness. succeed (doesn't ness fail either)...it's not the funniest thing, but i feel it IS more of this biting, great commentary...good punch in the stomach to all the hypocrisy...etc. For whatever reason, even if it's not the intended reason...the film's a decent piece of work.

There's your answer. If you laughed at SuperTroopers, Beerfest, Jackass, no wonder you didn't find IGWT funny.

It's not that bad.

I am a huge fan of Feldman and Kaufman, and when I watched this, like the OP, for the first act or so I was very bored. Lots of tired gags in a somewhat lackluster delivery.

But the last act, with the G.O.D. computer and an awesomely overacting Andy Kaufman surrounded by "Scorpio Rising" or "Wraith" esque biker cops it got downright surreal. And it was then I really started to enjoy the movie.

Glad I was a fan enough of the people involved to plow through to the good stuff. Its an alright weird comedy if you have the patience for it!

I'm interested in monks, so I watched this movie. I was surprised to see this was Andy Kaufman's film debut, as I am a big fan of his. Regardless, I thought this movie was terrible. For a much better comedy with monks, see Nacho Libre. For those of you who were able to enjoy this, great for you. Not for me.
