Hey Adam Lambert and Prince...

Caesare called....he wants his look back.

I think that is why so many people speak of a perceived "gay subtext" in this movie.

I have watched and loved this movie for decades now, watched it again last night, and in several scenes that I never noticed before, it was as clear as Grey Goose that Prince had clearly sniped some of his looks off of Caesare.

In fact, watch the scene with Caesare at the top of the stairs of the Nashville performance with his arms raised and the smoke and backlight...then watch the end of Purple Rain.

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

I read somewhere that Prince was a huge fan of this movie when it came out. He especially connected with the notiion of discovering and developing new acts under his control (The Time, Sheila E, Vanity 6). I remember seeing this movie after reading that and thinking the same as you about his look and stage personality. I think this movie was a big influence on him at that time.

Interesting, I had never heard that. But the timing is definitely right for this movie and Prince's iconic look's emergence.

In fact, taking a look at Prince's look in 1979-80 (I Wanna Be Your Lover, Dirty Mind, etc..), he had long straighter hair, and more of a "rocker" look.

Then in 1981: Controversy, and the Chesare look!
