He looked so old.

I thought Wallach looked younger than McQueen in this. I actually checked to see who was older in real life and was shocked to learn that McQueen is 15 years younger. He looks about 60 in this movie.

He was dying from cancer at the time for gods sake!

He looked good and moved good for 50.

Knowing that this was his final movie and that he was already ill, I expected McQueen to look worse than he did. I think he looks like normal guys do at that age. He did not seem older, nor sicklier than the average man of fiftyish. Of course he's going to look worse if you compare how he looks here and how he looks in The Magnificent Seven or The Great Escape. But I don't think his illness showed in the finished film.

I'm here, Mr. Man, I cannot tell no lie and I'll be right here till the day I die

Compared to 1974's TOWERING INFERNO he looks about the same.

I thought he looked about 50, which is what he was. He had all or most of his hair and was fairly trim, which cannot be claimed by most guys of 50. No, he was not exceptionally handsome, but then he never was. He was playing a 50-year old bounty hunter, and he looked the part.

All the Brat Packers from the 80's are over 50 now and they don't look much older than back then. Steve McQueen grew up in the 30's and 40's when life was much harder and people smoked and drank a lot

McQueen looked the same for most of his career, he had one of those faces, he looked the same in the cincinatti kid

I have to disagree .. infact i was SHOCKED at how good and healthy he looked for a guy just weeks from dying from cancer !

I guess near the end it must have ravaged him ... but in this his final film , he still looks good !

The man is a legend !

McQueen, similar to other actors like William Holden, chose to life hard lives. Plus, McQueen was slowly dying from cancer caused by asbestos exposure. So, that didn't help.
