Birth Scene

The birth scene at the end was pretty disturbing.

That part always confused me.

Suspending disbelief for the film, I still have a hard time buying the monster-baby would "birth" itself by ripping through her abdomen. The path of least resistance is still out the same way its Papa got in, which is not that way! (Same criticism also applies to "Species 2.")

But the baby is just that, a baby. It doesn't have that kind of intelligence yet. It has fangs and claws and it found the easy way out. The doctors standing around should have performed a c-section. But then we wouldn't have gotten Corman's homage to Alien.

In-universe response: I'm contending that wasn't the easiest way out for it. My contention is that it would take intelligence that it doesn't possess to think, "Hey, I'm ripping through this wall of flesh," instead of just sliding out where the exit is. If a C-Section was needed, it would just hang out until the incision was made.

In-reality response: No doubt. Corman wanted to "honor" the scene from 'Alien'. It's more gore and that's not a bad thing for a movie like this.

So, my essential problem is with the in-universe position. I fully understand the realities of movie-making and the decision from that perspective.

Corman also made Carnosaur which features dinosaurs being birthed by women.

Exactly.

I always assume that, in inter-species matings, that the baby hybrid is born however the mother's species would normally give birth. Sure, in this movie the father was a fish-man, & fish lay eggs, but the mother is a human, so why not have her give birth normally?

Even still, I also like the idea of in hentai, after a monstrous "coupling" the poor girls laying several monster eggs.

The real question is, why was she the only human female to survive her rape & give birth?

Impregnation could have great potential for films and story writing.

If only more of these pregnancy scenarios in movies could just end without an unrealistic bursting death for the sake of gore.

It's always in the best interest for the species/monster whatever to have a steady flow of human baby farms constantly getting pregnant and giving birth again and again.

Yes, a pity the women are a one time use only...! Would have been nice to make them breeders for life .
