Something I still don't get . . . .

Why did Eddie Albert's character need to move out of his own home?

Something about his wife ordering him to, because she was "moving a (gay female) friend in".

1. What is the verbiage in the marriage laws -- apparently identical in all 50 states -- that permits wives to do this (even if the man did most of the bread-winning to pay for said home)?

2. Can't Eddie Albert's character just stay home and live in another room?
Uncomfortable and emasculating? Yes.
More economically viable (in that bad 1980 economy)? Hell yes!
