REMAKE!!

I just watched this again on DVD. It has an everyman charm to it. I would love to see a remake. Anyone else?

Who would star??

I would definitely go see a remake! I'm not sure who could play S. Nichols, though. Ritter had such a good, friendly personality that I can't even think of who could play Captain Avenger.

For a different take on it, how about Dominic Monaghan? That would give it an original look. With maybe Maggie Q in the J. Marsh role. Dorian Harewood as the Mayor, and Tom Everett Scott as the PR guy.

The problem is they'd probably turn him into a real superhero, and give him powers at the end. This is the idiocy of the studios today.

I count Hero At Large in my all-time top ten. Maybe it just hit me when I needed it. I was 19, away at college and depressed. I hadn't gotten that "movie feeling" in a very long time, and then saw this one with a couple of friends. Boy, did it give me a great outlook for the time. And it stands up.

A remake?

NO... ****ING.... WAY!!!!

All they'd do is SCREW it up, just like "Year without a santa claus", "BayFormers", & countless other movies/tv shows.

IMDB supports video piracy.

I can't image who could pull off the role as well as Ritter did.

For me this is just one of those films that doesn't need a re-make. It just needs to be seen again. Of course, I'd love to see more movies just-like-this. LOL

If it was remade today, I think Jack Black would be a lock for Captain Avenger. Lots of fat jokes and fart jokes.

They should only do remakes of movies that had a good concept but didn't live up to it, and the remake can actually make a better film from the concept. Or for movies that just don't stand up to the test of time. This movie is still good and isn't outdated. So, I say no there is no need to remake it. If they did remake it they would likely screw it up. They got it right the first time. Maybe rerelease it.

To Love and win is the best thing. To Love and lose, the next best.

I agree that this should be rereleased rather than remade, but for some reason I can picture Jim Carrey as the lead. If he wasn't made to overdo the comedic angle and allowed to play it reasonably straight as Ritter did it could work, kinda like The Mask in a cape, minus the silliness I guess.

Kung fu movies are like porn. There's 1 on 1, then 2 on 1, then a group scene...

OK.. I was against the idea of a remake until you mentioned Jim Carrey. If he played it fairly straight like I know he is capable of, then it might be a decent movie. I'm just afraid they'd give it to Will Ferell and turn it into a spoof.

I have this film on DVD as well. This film is so underrated. With that, I would say no, I don't think there should be a remake, even if it remains faithful to the original. I think that a new version wouldn't convey the same type of emotion that all of us felt after seeing the first film. I think it will be kind of forced, and that just wouldn't work. It would be like re-making Rocky - you just wouldn't feel the same way. Anyway, if they did make one, I think that Christopher Gorham (Ugly Betty) would be great as Steve Nichols. He has that everyman kind of quality, just as John Ritter did. Not sure about the others, only the Bert Convy role. I think James Spader could totally pull it off. Anyone who has seen Boston Legal might agree with me.
