Shlock at times - but - interesting. I like it.

Yep

The real story is pretty interesting, the movie not at all.

Nope, prick.it's actually a pretty interesting film despite (or perhaps because) of its notorious reputation. Yup, it's got flaws, but I'll take a flawed masterpiece like Heaven's Gate over any of your La-La Lands today. Go burrow your nose in history books about the Johnson County war all you want.

Because calling people names proves you're right...😑

You must be confusing me with someone else, because I don't like La Lal Land either. But that last bit of advice sounds way more interesting than either of these two movies.

This movie bankrupted a studio. Terrible all around.

reply

Sorry. A movie's merit cannot be evaluated on whether or not it flopped. Thank God the cinephiles at Criterion had a different conception and opted to add Heaven's Gate to their estimable library.

I like it too.

I think the films problem is Cimino just lost sight of the story he was trying to tell and instead just made the movie beautiful to look at, it’s easily one of the best looking movies I’ve ever seen, the images and scenery are striking, it’s a shame that such a potentially good and interesting story was sidelined rather than have the visuals compliment it.
