The new direct release of HEART BEAT on Warner Archive DVD is very good overall. Comparatively speaking, the old VHS version was tinted yellowish, as though attempting to create a phony nostalgia look. The new DVD has natural colors. Also, the new DVD is letterboxed (somewhere around 1:85-1), which reveals much more of the film's pictorial imagery than the old VHS.

If you love this film as much as I do, it's time to toss that old VHS and buy the new, vastly-improved DVD transfer from Warner Archive. Thank you, Warner Brothers! I'm surprised that it has taken this long to get HEART BEAT on DVD, since Nick Nolte, Sissy Spacek and John Heard are still popular actors. I'd love to see a deluxe DVD, with audio commentary from those three stars.

That's interesting about the old VHS release. I saw the movie in a theater at the time of it's original release and it did not have any yellow tint to it. In fact, I remember being blown away by the way Sissy Spacek looked in her first scene since she had the vivid old style make-up espcially the bright red lips. It was the first film in which she didn't look like a kid or a hippie.
