Anyone else love this movie?

I just listed a bunch of my stuff to sell on eBay and I just couldnt get myself to part with this one. LOL. I really do think its an under-rated gem.

Anyone else agree?

I love, love, love this movie! It's very atmospheric (love the fall scenery). And the opening scene at the movie theater was very creepy. It's one of my very favorite slasher movies.

reply

Yes, that opening scene is one of my all time favorites in horror movies.

reply

Lovey I completely agree I love the scenery too and the opening scene is very creepy...

The film has a creepy and scary opening, that makes these late 70's, early 80's slasher films so indelible to some. The rest of the film doesn't live up to it's promise, and while it attempted to do a Halloween with atmosphere, suspense, lighting and minimal gore, it pretty much fails. Had the director upped the ante with the violence\blood department and given us an extended and more vicious ending sequence, then it might have been seen as more of a classic. He wasn't as skilled as Carpenter to pull it off and when I watch it, I feel like I have wasted my time.

Don't ever part with this one unless it's re-released on blu ray or something - although the imperfection with the DVD is part of the charm.

The movie theater scene and the closing scenes in the old Fallout Shelter/Morgue are awesome.

What imperfection?

reply

I thought the DVD was a pretty good transfer. It's not 100% perfect, but considering how old it is I thought it was in really good shape. I think also the film grain, which some consider an imperfection, is pretty evident.

This is definitely one of my favorite slasher pics. The atmosphere is perfect, especially that intro scene at the movie theater.

Even though I lived hundreds of miles away, I remember movie theaters being exactly like this one in the film.

Words can't even do justice to how much I love this movie. The thing is is I know intuitively that it's totally unoriginal, but it's so well crafted and there's so much heart it in it. As another poster noted, the atmosphere really does it. The Staten Island locations somehow work in the film's favor— it's really just a delight to watch, and has some great scenes throughout.

I re-watched it last night, and totally loved it, much more than in my first viewing, that's for sure, LOL. It has some creepy moments, the leading lady is rather likeable, and that late '70s/early '80s atmosphere was simply awesome. (BTW, I wouldn't sell my DVD of this movie either).

I totally agree I love this movie it's on on Demand to rent and I end up renting it and watching it a few times a month. They don't make them like this anymore. I'm happy to see other ppl love it too :-)

I'm a fan of this one too! The acting is solid, the characters likable, and there's a few creepy scenes (including a very well done opening scene that could've possibly inspired Scream 2's opening).

I also love this film. Saw it opening night way back in 1980 and it scared me silly:) Got it on VHS and later DVD. I watch this a few times a year and it scares me every time. What gets me is the killer. He doesn't speak once but he has such at intense scary look about him.

It's ok. Though it holds a special place with me since it was filmed in Staten Island, NY, which is where I live and I've been around many of the shooting locations.
