Absolutely.
It's the sort of thing that they could have thought off independantly however given Screams referential nature (and the screenwriters love for horror films from the late 70s to late 80s) I imagine they straight up ripped this film off with the opening scene.
I've always praised Scream 2's opening, as have many others, it's great but when you see a film that was released 17 years prior do the same thing it loses it's thunder so to speak.
The more films I watch the more I realize that many big franchise films like Halloween and Scream get far too much credit for innovation and concepts. The more you watch, the more you realize everything casual viewers praise them for inventing or doing was already done by someone else.
