Alternate ending?

Can anyone tell me about the alternate ending?

reply

I saw this movie at the theater and then later on television. I was a little miffed when I saw it on TV because I knew that it was not the same ending as the one in the theater. Basics, the ending of the theatrical release was not a happy ending. After the airplane crashed into the hangar, you heard the news reports stating that there was an accident and this was it. It left you believing that everyone in the hangar died. In the alternate ending I saw on television the news report was changed. Basically they gave it a happy ending, saying that "several people survived the crash, claiming to have been shielded by an alien spacecraft. They will be holding a news conference..." I remember it because when we left the theater we were all speculating that maybe they had lived for that very reason. So basically there wasn't too much of a difference, same shots, just different voice over.

MST3 runs the happy ending too, but Joel and the bots do a good
job of reiterating the fact that they are all dead and don't
fall for the voiceover. Plus anyone whose seen the movie, see
that there is no chance no one could survive that explosion
head on.

reply

That doesn't take into account whatever unknown alien material the craft may have been created from -- *epsecially* if it survived it's descent through the atmosphere.

In the alternate ending the chickens rebuild the hangar as a giant vat for making minestrone soup, until they are shut down by Jim Rockford wearing Goldie Hawn as a hat. Epic stuff!

reply

yes, that is the version i saw.

reply

The true conspiracy of this movie is to persuade the public that Darren McGavin was a bad actor. Like the Roswell Incident, this was a transparent lie no-one fell for.

reply

Thats unusual because the version we saw in the theaters has the people hiding in the UFO all surviving and the goventment officials getting in hot water over it.

reply

Yes that is the ending I saw in the theaters too, the TV announcer said they had survived in the UFO.

Atleast that is how I always remember it.

reply

That's what I thought. Don't they show the UFO after the smoke clears (to visually confirm that it indeed survives the explosion)?

reply

It looks like the version I saw had the voice over stating that everyone had survived. Is the original ending the same, just omitting the voice over or is their anything else to it?
