Tom Hanks? He'd be amazing.

I can't see the requisite darkness and menace to Hanks. If they were younger, I'd be tempted to say Tommy Lee Jones, Michael Douglas, Robert Duvall, or Gene Hackman. Considering looks, T.L. Jones might have been the best choice to play Jim Jones.

Sorry everyone. No one you mentioned resembled him. The closest, although he is dead now, would be Roy Orbison. He had black hair, medium tone skin, and was about 5'10" tall. He was considered very good looking by my classmates. The pictures you have seen of him are close but not like he looked standing there. I would say they did a good job with Powers Boothe but he was slender compared to Jim Jones. He was everyone's friend to get you under his power. To me he was slightly on the creepy side. I felt uneasy around him. He was a sick sadistic poor excuse for a member of the human race.

Robert Downey Jr, he not only looks like Jones but has the charisma and can even sing gospel(which Jones did all the time in his sermons) and he would chanel Jim Jones not just in looks but in voice and that commanding presence and allure, Robert Downey Jr was litteraly born to play Jim Jones
