Who's that revolting woman with the flies on her face.......?!

.........And what's she supposed to represent?

reply

The actress is Jean Warren. They're ants, not flies. I'm not entirely sure what she's meant to represent, maybe the voice of feminism. The way she verbally attacks Jones for his promiscuity suggests something along these lines.

reply

Thanks. When I first saw the film I assumed them to be plastic, but then I saw them moving- Yeuch!!

reply

She's reciting the SCUM Manifesto by Valerie Solanas. The US slang is replaced with slang more common in the UK though, i.e. pussy becomes *beep* Malcolm McLaren had an obsession with the book for some reason, random excerpts were painted on the walls and ceiling of the SEX boutique with Olympia Press porn and Situationist writings.

...And if that wasn't bad enough, we are next confronted with the sight of Mr. Jones on the lavatory engaged (literally) in the process of moving his bowels!

reply

Jones isn't on the lav...he's crouching down in the middle of the party crapping on a Pistols album! Such a charmer....

Hey! I have a picture of that crap! On the compilation album 'Flogging a Dead Horse', there is a picture of an album with a pile of crap on it on the back of the sleeve :)

Woo Hoooooooo!

also, to further enforce the feminist line, the use of ants would echo the idea of ants as a symbol of erectile dysfunction - a surrealist idea exemplified by Dali in his frequent use of ants (and as an indication of his own lack of sexual function)

reply

See "Un Chien Andalou" and you will understand where the idea came from.
