The Tank Crash

How close was that girl to getting run over?

reply

Hi,
My dad was the the owner/driver of the M5 tank in GORP... in addition to hearing stories over the years of how close that really was.... here is a bit of a story from him as to filming on set. :) Thought I'd share.

M-5 Tank in GORP
"I owned and drove the M-5 Stuart tank in the movie GORP. (actually written in all capitol letters). There were lots of interesting stories I recall from the filming but the one that stands out in my mind was when I drove thru the house. (a prop built for the movie)

We were to receive a radio message as when to stop----but it never came ! I could see nothing out the vision port and finally decided to slap on the brakes and stop. Had I continued one more foot I would have crushed one of the stunt people that was to have jumped out the window but didn't. Amazingly the big concern was that I came within inches of one of the very expensive Panavision cameras. The "Movie people" said they could always get another stunt girl but cameras were expensive.

All in all I was treated great by all the "movie people" and I left with many good stories----several best left untold."

I just watched GORP. I loved it. It's mostly because I miss those old summer camp movies, but it's a pretty unhinged flick by any measure - it's a bunch of screaming, drinking, fighting, *beep* farting, masturbating, raping (!) - but all in good fun - 80's style!

But, holy *beep* your Dad definitely almost ran that girl over - I had to rewind it to see that he didn't! Someone grabs her at the last possible second - I MEAN THEE LAST SECOND.

I have no clue what GORP means.

"I have no clue what GORP means."

It's an acronym for simple trail mix ("Granola Oatmeal Raisins Peanuts", or "Good Ol' Raisins and Peanuts"). A popular snack in summer camps.

very close to being a snuff film. There's part of me that thought "they planned that perfectly" but then realized there was no way that was supposed to happen

I watched it last night on NetFlix and thought the same thing. I'm glad this page explained it. Poor girl.
