What did Andrew Stein put down the back of Kate's underwear? Why did he do this?

I just watched it - he said she had flowered underwear - which she did.
SeniSan has it right, he was pulling off twigs/leaves sticking to her to free her - and in doing so, pulled off the tag on her underwear without realizing what it was. When he then looked at it, he pushed the detached tag back into her underwear!
Yep, he pulled a decorative flower off of her underwear on accident. Being the bumbling guy he was around women, he didn't know what to do, so he pulled her underwear open and tossed it back in! I loved that scene, it cracked me up.
