Why do people like this movie?
Not a very entertaining film. I liked the air up there and Congo more, those are better African films.

shareI just heard of this movie last night when I borrowed it (along with the sequel) from my neighbor because times are tough now and free entertainment rocks.
Both of these movies will stay with me for some time because of their simplicity in topic and the filming of this. I loved the little "speed up" parts- I am sure there is a correct name for that but I don't know it. It was like a little Charlie Chaplain effect!
This movie made me think of how these bushman tribes survive without any water directly by them and they seemed to always be happy. Always able to look at the bright side of things. The simple side.
It also taught me a few things about animals I never knew. Things you can't learn about by just visiting your local zoo! (Yes I am a true city person and will prolly never be able to afford a trip to Africa to take a safari cruise!)
Just pure simple entertainment good for the whole family.
Because of the speed up filming up this, I felt as though this kind of gave these movies a timeless effect. As watching them I knew they were older movies but yet didn't seem all that old. I could still relate to the basic themes & situations.
When I can find this on sale I am going to add both of these to my collection.
My only regret is not finding out about these movies sooner.
*** I also stayed up way too late last night to watch all the extras including with the DVDs. My only complaint is when they interviewed the main character- Gwon- they did not provide any translation for what he was saying. I even tried setting the dvd to English subtitles but that only gave me the speaking parts of the interviewer. Perhaps there might be a more recent release of these dvds and they will provide that.
If I could give these movies 11 stars I would.

Muzlin: Undercranking! Thank you for telling me what that was. I enjoyed the little article too.
shareI didn't see this film as "African" so much as "philosophical". It's the movie's message I enjoy. It brings a fresh perspective, albeit completely basic ;).
