I love kids but the little boy in this movie really pissed me off, he was so ridiculous with his behaviour.

I liked the kid. I thought he looked 'natural' even though he doesn't speak in this film the way we have come to expect kids to speak in films (cool and slick).
When I was watching the film, there were so many times I wanted to scream, 'Pick up your feet and move, you little s#it!' and I would immediately realize that this was just the way a kid WOULD act. In a more modern film, no - the kid would do everything as if it was choreographed!

I loved the little boy! I saw this movie when it first came out. I was in my late teens and the movie made such a strong impact on me I still remember Phil's lines and mannerisms. He DID remind me of a man in a little boys body. I say it was an excellent performance... Especially, for a child his age. Great movie!!

they originally wanted Little Ricky Shroeder for this role

I disagree. He did fine acting. He did not play for looking "cute" or smart or anything...At times, he was irritating but that was part of his character. I could not have guessed watching the movie that he would be Worst Supporting Actor of the year by the Razzies - a tie with Sir Laurence Olivier.
True, he was not as striking as the kids in A Woman Under the Influence, but who is ? These ones were unique ! And as kid actors go, I think John Adames was very, very good.

I thought the kid was very good as well so I came here to see what else he'd done and was shocked to see this was his one and only movie and that he got a Razzie. How can they award a child a Razzie?? so cruel and unwarranted.

The Razzies are a joke. I thought the kid was great.
