Idea from Twilight Zone
Episode 124 "A Kind of Stopwatch" Oct 18, 1963. I recall seeing the movie first on TV then seeing a late night UHF TV station rebroadcast during my college years.

...and was hardly the first use of the idea.
HGWells had a similar idea, using a drug, in a story called The New Accelerator; don't know when it was originally published, but i see that it was the title story of a collection published in 1943.
MacDonald does not receive any writing credit for that TZ episode. So maybe the story was different enough that they didn't need to pay for the rights.
