Tribute to Dorothy Stratten

GALAXINA is really a tribute to the late Dorothy Stratten; her true name being Dorothy Ruth Hoogstraten. You have to be well up there in age to remember Dorothy Stratten. She was the 1980 Playmate of the Year who met a tragic end in August 1980, the very year of her triumph. GALAXINA was released in the spring of 1981, eight months after her death. Her final movie, "They All Laughed", would be in limited release in 1983. By many accounts of persons who personally knew Dorothy Stratten, she was as beautiful inside as she was outside, if not more. There were Playboy playmates who exceeded Dorothy Stratten in physical beauty, but she was held to be kind, warm, gentle, and gracious, without the slightest hint of meanness or cynicism about her. For this reason and others, Dorothy Stratten is still remembered today in several websites. If one is old enough to remember Dorothy Stratten, then watching GALAXINA evokes only sad memories and grief, especially during closeups of her face. Dorothy Stratten is interred at Westwood Memorial Park cemetery in Los Angeles.

I wouldn't consider myself "up there in years", but yes I do remember being a teenager and reading about her murder in the newspapers. I also remember reading about the movie "Galaxina" and wanting to see it. I finally just did because someone posted it on YouTube (it won't be there long, if you want to see it I'd move quickly on it), and have to say it's pretty bad.

BTW, I had seen her grave site at Westwood Memorial Park Cemetery an was astonished how many years it's been. I wondered how long her celebrity would have last if she hadn't been murdered. My guess is not long. It's strange how people achieve immortality in Hollywood. Really, really strange.

Many, many people have said that she had excellent potential. I think she would have been around a lot longer than you think.

I thought the movie was good, even funny.
