killing of the snake necessary ?

i read that the owner of the snake regretted it as they filmed the scene. i guess it showed the audience that the movie was hardcore ? maybe switching to a fake snake or chopping it offscreen would have seemed cheesy ? it's definitely not the most talked about topic subject when discussing the friday the 13th series, or this first film. do you think it was worth it ?

it's ridiculous that someone chose to just hack a snake on set..
and what was even the point? a cheap jump scare.

lame.

The snake said something offensive.

While the movie was very woke for 1980 with straight white men all being killed by a straight white middle aged woman who also looked non-binary, the killing of the snake seemed to be inserted to have just a smidge of anti-woke content.
Sean S. Cunningham is a real enigma.

Super unnecessary.
