That line always rubs me the wrong way, when Stevie says that over the radio to her kid. Just say the truth, "By the time I realized the danger it was too late to get there and talking on the radio was the best I could do"

Why does she HAVE to stay there? She was able to direct the key characters to the place that would resolve the plot but she had no way of knowing that. She seems like a shitty mother.
She was cut off by the time she realized there was danger. She used the only tool available to her, the broadcast, to save her son and many others as well.
