What would George Lucas have done?

It's well known that Mr. Lucas wanted to make a Flash Gordon movie but couldn't secure the rights to the intellectual property (or something like that). So, for better or worse, we ended up with Star Wars.

But what if Lucas had actually succeeded in making a Flash Gordon movie, and we got his version instead of this one? What do you think it would have been like?

reply

I guess I'll never know.

Well...it woulda had better music and special effects but then Disney would have come along and made a shittier sequel with an uglier cast with as much charisma as the fat kid on “Head of the Class”.

Personally I hope Tim Burton makes a Flash Gordon flick and gives it the “Mars Attacks” treatment.

Whomever holds the intellectual rights to Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers is denying Sci-Fi fans some much needed entertainment.

This “superhero” sh*t is getting old and f*cking Beastie Boys music is vomiting all over Star Trek.

Interesting points. I would ask you to elaborate on them, but I see you've deleted yourself. Oh well.

Better music? Better than Queen? Um, no

It'd have been... played much straighter.

Which means it'd totally lack the camp elements that I love about it, the sexiness and ridiculousness, the over-the-top melodrama and the supporting players practically winking at the camera. No, Lucas would have tried to treat the material seriously, which wouldn't have been nearly as much fun.

Yeah, the whole universe would probably be covered in shades of gray and brown.

You would NOT have got any funny/smarmy one-liners that's for sure!

reply

Indeed.

Luke's name would have been Flash.
