No remake for this one?!

How come there is no remake or reboot for Flash Gordon?

It is the age of remakes/reboots and also the age of comic books super hero movies, so I am wondering how come they didn't do a new Flash Gordon movie yet?

reply

I agree, I did not think about this possibility in the past, but yes… it would be nice. Who would play Flash?

reply

Given the PC climate in Hollywood it would be hard to tell... could be a black actor, could be a woman, could be a black woman... but we can be sure it wouldn't be a blonde white male as it was in all the earlier versions.

reply

Idris Elba

reply

Don’t know who would play him, but he definitely has to be blond. :)

Do you have any suggestions? I can’t think of anyone at the moment.

I’ve came across this recently

It seems they do plan to do a remake after all.

reply

May be Chris Hemsworth could be an option, he has experience in this kind of movies...

reply

Sounds about right overseas

reply

Good choice. :)

reply

Why exactly a good choice?? ;-)

reply

I don’t know. He is blond and tall. 😂 He did good as Thor already and is popular at the moment, also I can’t think of any other blond muscular actor to fit the role. 😆

reply

Oh, I see!!! ;-)

reply

Dolph Lundgren?

reply

Yeah, I think he would be great if he was younger.

reply

I actually think Chris Evans would be a perfect Flash. He can play him straight like Captain America or tongue-in-cheek like Not Another Teen Movie. He actually looks like an American athlete.

Hemsworth is practically an Adonis. I don't see the star quarterback from next door turned hero of the universe like Flash is, but a guy who always walks into a situation knowing he's the baddest and most awesome @#$@#er in the room, like Schwarzenegger in his prime.

reply

Yeah, Chris Evans would be good for the role too.

reply

this *is* the remake!

reply

Really?! Didn’t know that.

Well, then remake of a remake.

Like A Star is Born, it has 4 different versions by now.

reply

Well, first there were the comics, and then there were the 1930s movie serials, and then a 1950s TV show, and a late 1970s animated series.

reply

Cool. Didn’t know, I thought it was a comic book.

reply

I think the comic originally ran in newspapers. In those days, there was more serious adventures stuff in the funnies.

reply

Does that dreary 2007 Sci-Fi channel series count?

reply

Oh, wow! Didn’t know about the series. I’ve been living under a rock apparently. 😂

reply

It came & went pretty quick - part of the whole grittier remake movement, like Netflix's "lost in space"

reply

I will look it up. Trailer at least. I’m not planning to watch if it was that bad.

Speaking of which I didn’t really like Lost in Space, I watched few episodes but couldn’t get into it for some reason.

reply

That's $5 bargain bin material right there.

reply

The one thing they got right about the series was that Aura was still way hotter than Dale Arden. It had a few good episodes, but was disappointing overall.

reply

Disney just canceled it.

reply

Yeah, Taika Waititi, the director of my faves "Thor: Ragnarok" and "What We Do In The Shadows", had a remake in Development Hell. The cancellation of the project was just announced a couple of days ago.

I'm miffed! Crushed! Pissed off! I love Waititi's films and and I love the 1980 "Flash", it's like my favorite director was tailoring a movie to my tastes. And now it won't happen, goddammit.

reply

I suspect they were concerned it could wind up as another John Carter or Valerian sized bomb.

reply

your wish came true dude

reply

It wasn’t my wish, was just wondering because of the current movie trends.

Also this production has been on and off for a while, and there were talks of it being animation but decided to go for live action.

I gather Ryan Reynolds is considered for the role. I don’t see him as Flash Gordon. The other guy from Avatar who is also considered would be better in my opinion.

But I’m not that excited about it, will just stick to the 1980s version.

Actually I feel like watching it now, it has been a while.
