I have no idea why its panned so much. Its a treasured movie from my childhood.
shareI'm surprised by all the hate for this film also. It has an excellent cast and a decent script. Not all of the jokes work, but I found it very entertaining. I saw it on HBO in the early '80s, and I managed to find it on VHS to watch it again. 7/10 stars.
shareMy whole family enjoyed this movie, especially at election time every four years! Can't help thinking that many viewers allow politics to negatively influence their opinions on certain films, like this one from the Carter administration (at no other time could this have been made, just look at USED CARS).
