An interesting little film...spoilers

I was impressed with 2 things about this film. Franks performance and Huttons direction. And although I was ok with the downbeat ending the movie did get quite inexplicable there at the end.

I mean I cant find the logic in breaking into the guys house to take him into custody. It would be very dangerous and unless his plan was to take him somewhere to whack him there is no way any DA could press the case. I thought for sure Dulaney was going to lure Blank into attempting to kill him on the street and then shoot him. Then he could claim he had just been in the right place at the right time leaving those that thwarted his pursuit to wonder suspiciously.

Now with the ending we have it is only a matter of time before they pin Blanks killing on him. My god the 2 bellhops knew he was there asking questions about Blank and he told that Black lawyer he broke in there without a warrent, WTF?

Oh well just kinda fell apart there at the end for me....maybe I just dont get it.

If you remember the 'Black lawyer' told that Delaney haven't even told him the suspects name... one can imagine that the same goes for the address.

And it's quite clear that in the end just an uptown white guy got killed by a thief (man... the psycho even called 911 reporting a break in!!!).

You'll be more thrilled to try and make the connection between the psycho and the wife. Or to be a little more specific the decision to kill the psycho and the wife's death.

Anyway it's just my vision, but I guess I answered your question!

The decision to kill Blank was undertaken by Delaney on the spur of the moment ... He had evidence enough to present a case against Blank, whose rant towards Delaney served to provide reason enough to know why he was on a killing-spree and that he was a complete psychopath with severe issues. That he left the apartment with Blank dead, after using - what I would assume to be - and unlicenced gun (WW2 Luger) and Blank having reported a break in - Delaney having wedged the chain after using a key he had made - leaves the case largely open-and-shut... Yes, Delaney had been there asking questions, but he gave a false name, was there only briefly and although he spoke to his peers about a suspect he had in mind, again, no name or address was provided. Not even a rough idea of where he was staying.
