I would really like to see a remake of "The Final Countdown" with Kirk Douglas. I loved that movie but each time I see it I wish they would have used the aircraft carrier in more battles. I think this could be remade without distorting history too much. For instance; what if it was still set in WW2 and used to decide the outcome of a battle?and not the outcome of the entire war. I envision seeing the Battle of the Bulge with the 101st surrounded but with a couple fighter jets scorching the German lines.....or helping out with D-Day?
In any case I would really like to see this movie remade.

.....one more idea....how about the Viet Nam war with todays tech....drones..bunker busters....etc.
with all due respect, NO! Hollywood needs to stop REMAKING classics. its a joke. they never work and its just an idication that there is no creativity left.
LOL - old sea salts have been drinking rum for years
I AM an old NaCl, and I'm telling you, you are full of sh!t. The US Navy has been dry (no Alcohol) for almost a hundred years now.
GENERAL ORDER NO. 99
[Prohibition in the Navy]
NAVY DEPARTMENT,
Washington, D.C., June 1, 1914
CHANGE IN ARTICLE 827, NAVAL INSTRUCTIONS.
On July 1, 1914, Article 827, Naval Instructions, will be
annulled and in its stead the following will be substituted:
"The use or introduction for drinking purposes of alcoholic liquors on board any naval vessel,
or within any navy yard or station, is strictly prohibited, and commanding officers will be held
directly responsible for the enforcement of this order."
JOSEPHUS DANIELS
Secretary of the Navy.
Even the British Royal Navy, famous for their daily rum rations, have stopped them since 1971.
Anyway Charley was in Navy SEALs, plus we're talking about him playing a character and not playing himself
It was humor you dumbass, I am not so ignorant as you to think he was playing himself, not a role. Also his role in Navy SEALS was a joke. Someone like that would never have made it into the Teams... EVER.

Because you are always (intentionally) posting bullsh!t to annoy others. like posting obviously wrong information, intentional misspellings, and the like. Then feigning being the injured party when others call you on it. Like right now.
And never an admittance to your being wrong. just look at the above. nothing, not one word about Sheen his role in Navy Seals, or Alcohol in the Navy and how you are wrong on all of it. Just move on to poor little you getting attacked all the time.

Blah blah blah
I submit OPNAVINST 1600.16A
Section 9.g., also known as BEER DAY!
Note the date of this document is 2012, but we had beer days back when I was in too. It's a pretty long-standing tradition. I don't know what ships you served on, but your CO's might have been "not alcohol friendly". Some of us older guys MIGHT have had a stash of rum on board to nip at from time to time. My CO knew who to come to.
It's the exception that proves the rule. We are talking in general, not the one and only exception where an alcoholic beverage can be had (and under extremely controlled conditions)

Wouldn't be the first time Father and Son platyed the same character. But the last time was in the same film, not a remake.
Nightbreakers. A film about the Atomic Soldiers. The elder Sheen played the scientist during the present day at a Vegas Convention who is confronted about his past working at the Nevada Test Site.
His Son, Emilio Estevez plays the same character in his younger days working at the NTS, as most of the film is set as a flashback to those earlier times.

I would usually agree ......but I think this is a good candidate for a QUALITY remake.
The cinematography of the original I think was top notch. But imagine the badassness if they used a really cool modern soundtrack by Hans Zimmern or something.........like TOP GUN :)
I love this movie, but some of the dialogue and acting and soundtrack are dated.
Would be kinda cool if a remake had F-22 Raptors vs Japanese Zeros.
Remaking this movie would be a HORRIBLE idea, some things are just better left the way they are. Lets face it, Hollywood can't do anything right these day, especially with their efforts to remake (ruin) perfectly good films.
I know the special effects aren't the greatest, and yes there are errors in the film. However, this is a great movie that should be left alone. I can only imagine the type of ridiculous horsesh!t they would add to this film to sell tickets.
The reason I'm here today is because I read about the death of Charles Durning. RIP Mr Durning, you were a great actor and you will be missed.
Yeah they remake so much crap these days, muppets, endless die hards, hulk etc but this could actually make a good remake. Have steven spielberg for director and have Kurk douglas make a cameo!
I don't go after people for simple typos. Notice the I and U are next to each other on a keyboard.
You however, make an INTENTIONAL habit of wrong spellings that are far more than simple types and continue to post the same crap even after being corrected because it IS intentional and you want to piss people off, which means you are a fraking loser.
You know, you could actually CONTRIBUTE to these boards and discussions, but instead, you choose to be the annoying little sh!t that gets on everyone's nerves
What sort of sad pathetic little person actually gets off on annoying others? Think about that.... because that is who you are.

I was reading some of your posts on the Crimson Tide board and you came across there as you do here: as a rather unpleasant, grumpy know-it-all who finds it appealing to act smug and superior. I hope you aren't like that in real life, nor were that way with your fellow shipmates while in service.
CGSailor is usually right (even if he is a skimmer). What gets gets annoying on this forum (as well as many others on the internet) is the seemingly unending quantity of of apparent know-it-alls who have no reason to know anything about some of the things they post because they have not been there and really have no idea what they are talking about. This very understandably aggravates those of us who have been there and know that some of their lofty-sounding pronouncements are total *beep*. In this regard, any critical comments he might have made about CRIMSON TIDE are almost surely more accurate than otherwise. Truly, you ought to read what I wrote about that travesty of celluloid.
No way. The Navy can't afford to fly the Blue Angels, no way they are going to help like they did with this movie. It's all real air footage. And the Tomcat is retired. So many reasons not to remake this cult classic.
They should remake this but instead of using Pearl Harbor as the backdrop, they use NYC on 9/11 as the location where it prevents the tragic events from happening
