Great movie

This is a film with heart that addresses a sorely ignored topic in a sensitive but hilarious way. DeLuise is fantastic.

I totally agree! When this movie came out I was only 10 years old, but I saw it with my mother and I've always loved it. The scene where the intervention group is whipped into a feeding frenzy is great.

LOL!! That scene is the best :)))

An absolutely hilarious movie, I miss it, I haven't seen it in years!.....(got to see it on FMC again) Thanks Fox! edit: 5/20

I love the scene where the "Chubby Checkers" go for an intervention and wind up relapsing. I was oddly aroused by hearing them describe those decadent dishes!

The late Dom DeLuise's best movie. Siskel and Ebert said it didn't know whether it was a comedy or a drama. I think it was both, and there was nothing wrong with that. Today such movies are called "dramedies," and they're often well-made and popular, just like this picture.

I liked the way it addressed what was even then a serious problem in this country, obesity. It demonstrated that while there is constant pressure to stay thin, the media is always throwing food in our faces with constant advertisements. It also showed that losing weight is not easy for most people, unlike the many ads for products and diets that flaunt pictures of diet miracles. Then they flash in very small print, "Results not typical."

Yes, it was heavy on Italian-American culture, but food is a big part of that culture. Besides, being of Italian ancestry, I could identify, but I think people of other cultures could as well. We all eat.

This was a funny, touching, entertaining, and underrated movie. Dom DeLuise was a brilliant, underrated actor who proved he could do drama as well as comedy. How sad we lost him because if the very problem his character tackled in this film.

"Please, a-please. No applause. Save it for the end."
