What if Luke had killed Vader?

During the second fight between Luke and Vader in this film, Luke struck Vader on the shoulder. What if Luke had aimed a little bit higher and had sliced Vader's head off? What would have happened after that?

reply

The phenomenon known as the starwars universe would not exist today...

reply

He would've been killed by the Emperor in the next movie.

reply

Well, the Empire would have been weakened a bit. No more trying to convert Luke, the Emperor probably would have wanted to kill him then if he could have gotten a hold of him.

The chances were much, much higher of Luke being killed. Vader took a look of really good cuts at him that would have killed him if he didn't block them.

What if Vader didn't stop and say "You are beaten" and just killed him?

reply

Then the Emperor would have gone after Luke to take him on as a new apprentice.

reply

If an untrained Luke killed Vader the Emperor would have such a hard-on for Luke.

reply

And he would have succeeded as Yoda foresaw, because Luke would have been so inflated by his victory that he'd have thought that nothing could stop him and that killing the Emperor would have been a piece of cake!

But Luke was singularly ill-equipped for battles of wits at that point, and the Emperor liked nothing better than seducing cute young blond guys to the Dark Side. Palpatine would have had a cute new apprentice in no time, just like he wanted.

reply

Then Palps would have sent Mara Jade and Prince Xizor after Luke.

reply

Then Vader would have been always with him and Luke couldn't have that!

reply

What if Vader killed Luke instead of just cutting off his hand? Maybe we would have got two more movies after this one because "there is another".

reply

Vader’s helmet would explode to reveal Luke’s face.
