Yoda, a great military leader and most powerful Jedi in the Galaxy....

....is reduced to a cute little creature now entertained by flashlights....

This was the same character that battled the most powerful Sith in the Universe in a light saber duel, correct? And made it through Order 66, right?

reply

You need to remember that he lived alone on that creepy swamp planet called Dagobah for about 20 years...

Ever see CastAway with Tom Hank? He lived alone on a beautiful island for just a couple of years, and talked to a volleyball named "Wilson", and mourned when he lost "Wilson"...

People and Alien Creatures get "Excentric" when they are forced to live alone "under a rock" for a long time. It happens all the time.

That, and Yoda wasn't Luke's "master" yet, and so he didn't have to be serious.

Give the cute little runt a break for taking a moment to be excited and curious about something that was new in his life, which wasn't a snake.

reply

Yoda's old job seems to have been working with the Junior Jedi, he thought the mind of a child was a wondrous thing. His childlike side is canon, and his delight in playing with the flashlight was at least somewhat genuine.

Because he was messing with Luke, to see if he was kind to people who didn't seem to be of any use to him, like seeing if your dinner companions are nice to you but mean to the waiter? Luke failed the test, obviously.

“Seventy-seven courses and a regicide, never a wedding like it!

reply

at least he found his sense of humour. it plays to Luke's and the audience's expectations. He didn't think this little green creature was a Jedi Master.

a lesson in not judging a book by it's cover?

"He's dusted, busted and disgusted, but he's ok"

reply

You're getting it backwards. The wise and peaceful Yoda we meat in Empire should have never picked up a light saber. The moment he is shown fighting in Attack of the Clones, his character was misinterpreted. The Yoda we are originally shown would have, at most, used nothing but the force in a fight, but in all likelihood would not have engaged in a fight at all. The purpose of his character is to show that to be the greatest Jedi didn't mean to be the best fighter, but to be the wisest and most at peace with the universe, which the prequels completely disregarded, turning him into an actual warrior.

reply

No.

In the Original Trilogy...

In "An New Hope" Han talks to Luke, and mentions how there is nothing wrong with having a Good Blaster at your side.

In "Empire Strikes Baster", Luke carries his Lightsaber and a Blaster.

In the Prequel Trilogy, ("Attack Of The Clones"?) Obi-Wan uses a Blaster to defeat his enemy, but still comments how (If I recall correctly) "Uncivilized" using one was.

but to be the wisest

As You Said... Yoda was not stupid!

Even if he would preferred not to use weapons, and usually did not...

He knew there would be times he would face off with Sith, who were armed with Lightsabers. Yoda wouldn't go into battle with out ways to defend himself.

Beside, ALL Jedi carried lightsabers, Why wouldn't Yoda?

Yoda did not have a lightsaber on Dagobah because he was not in any battle. But, it was probably stored under his bed in his dwelling.

reply

I'm not saying that carrying a lightsaber made people unwise, but skill with a lightsaber is not what makes a jedi great, especially Yoda. What made Yoda such a great character in the OT was that, despite having the reputation as the greatest Jedi warrior, he didn't ever seek out a fight, carry a weapon, or even train Luke in combat, what Yoda did was teach Luke about the nature of life and the force, even responding to Luke saying he was looking for a great warrior with "Wars not make one great." The character of Yoda in the OT was the type to never seek out a fight and if he did end up in one not need a weapon to win because of his knowledge of the force, not the mean green fighting machine depicted in the prequels.

reply

Yeah guys, don't you remember Obi-Wan talking about lightsabers in ANH??

"This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight, except for Yoda who was too good for lightsabers"

reply

The Emperor doesn't use light sabers either. He refers to luke's as "a Jedi weapon, much like your father's".

Pretty obvious that masters like Yoda and the Emperor were above those types of weapons.

reply

Yeah, there wasn't anything that indicated that Yoda abstained from using a lightsaber, just that he objected to the notion that there's something great about war. The Jedi aren't Klingons, they don't revel in battle, but fight when it's necessary.

Bravo ! Along similar lines, it felt "off" when Emperor Palpatine whipped out a lightsaber.

I agree, he was more of a puppet master than a fighter.

...and I thought I was the only one who cringed when I saw Yoda taking out his light saber, yelling and plunging into a fight with Dooku in "Attack of the Clones"...

Couldn't have said it better myself, wdement.

Willfully dense. The OP is heavy-duty trolling.

Isn't the Internet interesting? It's the only place where you can say the most asinine thing and people will just think you're trolling...

Yes, sometimes.

You do understand that Yoda is pretending to be entertained by the flashlight? He hasn't revealed that he is Yoda the Jedi Master? He's testing Luke's patience and virtue? Do you not understand that? USAFMXOfficer........sounds about right, non too bright.

reply

Ahhh Yoda... the one who knew the dark side shrouded everything on Coruscant, yet did nothing about it. You start at the top, Yoda... Investigate the Chancellor.

The one who split from Obi-Wan to face Palpatine alone... idiot. The Empire could have been stopped right there if Obi-Wan and Yoda faced Palpatine together.

Again, the one who didn't bother to investigate the Dark Lord of the Sith controlling the majority of the Senate, as revealed by Count Dooku in AOTC.

The one who goes to Kashyyyk for no reason at all, when he should have remained on Coruscant with Mace Windu, and ultimately helped Mace Windu confront Palpatine...

The one who agrees with Qwi-Gon to train Anakin, when there is a huge reason not to train Anakin.

reply

The problem is the prequels and the garbage that spawned from those abominations, like Clone Wars.

Another proof that Lucas did NOT have the whole story planned like those boot-licking prequel loving millennials believe, what a bunch of sad pathetic loser.

There is nothing more degrading than venerating a false idol, and that's what those people do: worship a fraud.

reply

The problem is 40+ year old nerds who hate that the PT didnt live up to the OT. Yoda didnt have a lightsaber in the OT so obviously this means that he never ever used one!

reply

I thought by now it was obvious Yoda already knew who Luke was and why he landed there. Yoda was already informed by Obi-Wan's ghost. Those two planned Luke's training. Their entire first meeting was an act by Yoda to test Luke's patience and temper.
