The DVD comparison thread deleted
The "2-Disc DVD version" thread (that was rather informative and helpful) was deleted from this board recently.
When the Helpdesk was inquired for a reason and a restoration, this was the reply:
[...] First of all please be aware that the IMDb is primarily a database site and our main aim is to provide our users with access to the the most comprehensive entertainment database in the world. The message boards are an additional service which represents a small fraction of our overall traffic. There are approximately 3 million boards here, one for every name and title, in addition to the 50+ main boards. Tens of thousands of new messages are posted each day and we deal with thousands of abuse reports each week.Luckily, I have a copy of the thread left as of January 31st, 2009.
It is our policy not to get involved in specific discussions regarding deleted posts or accounts. It is simply not practical given the number of boards, posts and abuse reports on our system, sorry.
We also regret that, due to the high volume of traffic, we are only able to investigate possible violations that are reported using the 'Report Abuse' feature and that we are unable to follow up on individual reports and we cannot go into specifics beyond this reply.
If you are unhappy with the IMDb message boards, it is our recommendation that you stick to the core functions of the site and stay away from the boards.

The deletion made me a bit suspicious: perhaps the thread was removed because it discussed rather unfavourably the products of certain companies and they sell their products via Amazon.com, or it was critical of the product information at Amazon.de.
Another reason may be that the IMDb abuse report system was simply abused. However, IMDb shouldn't allow such conduct.
I'm very happy with the IMDb message boards.
