... I'm studying Media in college and if I become a director one day I would love to bring this film to the US and UK and other places where most of it's population don't know this film even exists and release a special edition DVD, release it at the cinema with several trailers with other films. This is one of the films that the world needs to see because it is true and heartbreaking and one of the best things is that they actually used young actors. If they did that now it would be banned in several counties and have tons of contraversal issues but the thing with this film is that it's 30 years old and they can't do anything now because the two main boys are in their 40s now
Bourne + Bond = Best Action Film Award
Its release dates item on IMDB shows it being released only in Denmark, Sweden and USA. I think it's been mainly a video experience for nearly everyone who's seen it. I don't recall seeing it in a theater.
It gets some promotion from gay video outlets, I've noticed, usually as exploring the growing-up-gay experience. On that note, it may be considered optimistic with respect to a gay individual actually hooking up with a romantic "target". In this story the two boys are both attractive and live among tolerant, sympathetic peers.
I think it's good that they didn't use twenty-something "teenagers", like Hollywood often does. I also I don't think the boys were actually gay in real life, but that's not important. And I'm also not sure they are supposed to be constitutionally gay in the movie--maybe they're just two adolescents going through a sensual phase.
No they dont, and it is a shame. I wish I saw this movie when I was a teen. But I am still glad I saw it even as an adult.
The leads were excellent, all the players were. They were "honest" teens, acting like teens act. Hollywood falls short, its not as real. Hollywood teenseither act too adult or too childish. It is a good contrast between EU and American cinema.
Anyway I am glad I saw this one. It is a shame there wont be one like it again. In a way that is a good thing.

Actually, Wes Anderson did some pretty gutsy stuff in Moonrise Kingdom (2012), which dealt with young love. Naturally there was controversy, and scads of IMDb commenters playing moralists.
