Great Movie

Who else thinks this movie is just great. Watched this movie for a class for school to do a report and did not think i would like it because of the subtitles but i was wrong. The movie is nice and simple, ofcourse there are some scenes that should not be in the movie abd some scenes that i would like to add but i can say that about just about any movie i have ever seen. If anyone else knows of any other similar movies that deal with children or young adults dealing with there sexuality, please send me a comment.

I do realize this is a 30-year-old movie but dang, it's so good.
I think the Scandinavian societies were even more mature and ready for this kind of movie... even more mature than American society today.

I love this movie.

Well Denmark has a pretty interesting history. Hitler essentially took over the country for 5 years and then left it in ruins after the war. Afterwards it really forced the population to come together and do a lot of serious introspection as they rebuilt their country.

After the war, one of the first things that spiked off the charts was the Danish homosexual population (for reasons that are still debated in sociology and psychology circles). Some say that human nature is inherently pansexual and in times of great turmoil, it triggers something within us that allows us to return to our natural state quite easily (to roots that have very simple, very loving needs regardless of the "Male" or "Female" distinction.)

Others have said that great stress triggers hormones in the body that effect sexual orientation. Whatever the reason, they came together and became very embracing of differences and each other after the war and a lot of great things eventually came out of it, including things that were decades ahead of other countries such as this movie.

As a side note, they were also the first country to legalize pornography and are statistically considered to be, "the happiest people in the world" according to various studies. They also have an active Monarchy and are completely socialized. I could go on and on, I learned a lot when I stayed there a while back. =]

It s very interesting to hear different perspectives on homosexualality. There is still much to be learned about it. I did not know all thoes things about Denmark. It seems like a wonderful place to visit, and i would love to visit there one day. If you know of any other movies out of denmark like this one let me know. Thnaks

Yeah it's a very interesting kingdom. Also as a side note, it's one of the least religious countries in the world, 3rd only behind Sweden and Vietnam.

One theory that I always thought was interesting concerning this fact, was that some think the "lack of religion" factor might have played a role in the homosexuality spike during and especially after the war. In other words, if you don't have religion to hold on to on those cold dark nights, statistically, you'll either turn to drugs, philosophy, or quite simply... each another (human intimacy).

The easiest thing to hold on to in a crisis (minus religion and a lack of modern intoxicants) is each other of course, but often it's only when the world seems like it's ending that everyone looses their fear of the consequences and pursues that very human need. =]

"of course there are some scenes that should not be in the movie..." I agree.
For example the scene with Peter sitting at the floor of the shower covered in suds should have been an out take.

I thought that scene was funny. I enjoyed it. It shows how much of an innocent kid KIM was, despite there conversation about sex.

I also think the scene was reflective of how innocent Bo and Kim's relationship was.

Their was a lot of talk about religion in this movie was their not?
