Not necessarily for sick fucks

Stumbled upon a complain on IMDb's community board that an 1 star snowflakery user review is calling it a movie for sick fucks. This sounds like a great recommendation and here am I, just after the end credits.

The reviewer also called it a disrespectful movie to women and a disgrace to the slasher genre. First, he misidentified it, because "Don't Go..." relates more with the 70s exploitation movies than with the 80s teen horror. Second, he failed to notice that the producer is a woman and she also did some writer's duties on the script.

As for the movie itself - it is ok, but could have had more violence and been much better in the "going crazy" department. A lot of missed opportunities here for a cult status and I think they had the right tools for it. The story is somewhat flat, but there are a couple of good and unexpected scenes that I liked and some good dialogue for what it is. The character is a bit stretching Dan Grimaldi's acting abilities but at the same time he is strangely fitting it. Apparently this is his first role in a movie and he didn't particularly enjoyed horror movies, nor is easy to play a convincing psycho. His performance is ok and in line with one would expect from such a movie.

This movie is a pretty decent study of a lunatic.

reply

Not really. There are much better.

Maniac, Henry: portrait of a serial killer, Man bites dog, Angst... Angst especially.

reply

Henry is one of the most overrated movies ever made.

The original Maniac is good, though.

There's always one...

I saw it for the first time last night. It did feel like some things were missed opportunities and that the violence was toned down after the initial flaming scene. I kept expecting to see more but we didn't need to. It was a good study of someone who has lost their mind and has serious problems. I liked that his friend from work was trying to look after him.
