They were the same voices that Donny kept hearing throughout the film and they were telling him the same stuff they told Donny. They were reassuring the little boy and telling him that they would help him. The implication is that this kid is going to grow up to become a woman-hating serial killer like Donny because of the corporal punishment his mother has been dishing out to him.
shareExactly: It's saying there are more Donnys out there, and maybe even setting this film up for a sequel that never happened.
shareI thought that ending with the boy was VERY good and totally unexpected. It made me raise my score from a 5 to a 5.5 in its thoughtfulness - sending the message of 'don't abuse children.' I think that was the point, and not a hint of a sequel. Whatever the reason it was put in, it was very effective for me, and an ending that I won't soon forget.
