The new uncut DVD is excellent!

I just got finished watching the recent uncut DVD of "Don't Answer the Phone" and am happy to report that it's an excellent Special Edition disc. Besides a nice widescreen presentation of the film, we've also got a very enjoyable and informative commentary by writer/director/producer Robert Hammer, a photo gallery, several theatrical trailers (two for this movie and two for a couple of other Crown International horror pictures), a terrific interview with star Nicholas Worth, and a nifty little Easter Egg. Better yet, I bought my copy for only 8 bucks at a local Best Buy and definitely got my money's worth.

Info on the Easter Egg, please?

reply

The Easter Egg can be found on the second page of the scene selection. Click the arrow key up and you get a brief videotaped clip of writer/director/producer Robert Hammer saying the immortal line "Adios creep." Moreover, I actually added said line to the quotes section of the IMDb web page for this movie.

Is this version uncut?

So this is how liberty dies-with thunderous applause?

reply

Yes, the new DVD is the original uncut R-rated theatrical print of the film.

Would you recommend it to anyone? How would I be able to get hold of a copy?

So this is how liberty dies-with thunderous applause?

reply

I would recommend it to fans of the film; the extras are quite good and enjoyable, with the interview with star Nicholas Worth qualifying as the best extra on the disc. I purchased my copy at Best Buy for only eight bucks. It also retails at Suncoast for fifteen dollars. I'm pretty sure you can also order it on-line as well. Just make sure it's not the previous lousy edited-for-TV Rhino DVD.

Just one problem, though-I live in England!!

reply

I'm sorry about that. You might still be able to order it off the internet at a reasonable price. However, it's a Region 1 DVD.

Also, if you press up on the Bonus Features menu, a little square on the top right is highlighted. Press enter, and you see an 8 minute segment of Nicholas Worth talking about other films he's been in.

Honestly...no. I went into it with low expectations, but hoping for the best, and...well, it turned out to be crap.

I kind of dug the music though.

But, as always, I will say that, since everyone has different opinions, you may want to go ahead and check it out for yourself. The only person who's opinion really matters is yours, right? And $7.99 sounds like a sweet deal. So, if you feel it's worth it, go for it.
You might love it!

so is the uncut version 94 or 85 minutes long?

reply

It's the longer 94 minute version.

I enjoy keeping busy. Satan finds work for idle hands.

I bought the grindhouse version and the audio seems to be a little messed up in some scenes.

reply

Yeah, this version, too. So much hissing under the dialog, I kept looking for the snake in the corner.

The Mill Creek version (from the American Horror Stories 3-DVD set) is also the uncut version taken from the Media Home Entertainment VHS or Betamax tape.
