About the Photos

How in the world did Kimba's second-in-command get the photos that Shannon is beaten over? I mean, it's not like Shannon went to a local store and had them developed -- he wouldn't have had them developed until he was back in the States, certainly. That point has always bothered me. (And, no, it's not plausible that someone snuck into his room and stole the film without Shannon's knowing.)

Film developing (especially of B&W) is trivially easy to do in the field. Since unprocessed but exposed film is somewhat sensitive, a number of folks did develop on site in this era. He might have done so then. Prints, no, but the evil government could have made those to wave in his face, easily.

Why couldn't they have broken into his room and stolen it? His whole concept was to be out in the open about being a photographer, and apparently hide the true target behind birds and girls. Hiding your film (or snipping interesting frames out) would be sort of a giveaway, as would most spy tricks of any sort to prevent folks from entering or whatever.

Nobody had to sneak anywhere. He was abducted/beaten because he was hanging around with one of Kimba's mistresses. After they grabbed him they searched the room and had the film in his camera developed and more beatings ensued.

Most likely Shannon never intended to develop the films until after he left the country.
