Just seen it...a great movie.

I've just seen this film and I absoloutley love it.The grit and realism of a mercenary's life and the plot itself.I think Forsyth would be proud.

Right on, Snake Eyes. This film has been one of my faves since '81, when it was first released. However......(ahem), what you haven't yet seen is the "director's cut" of this film. Here in the US all we ever got was the 104-minute version which in and of itself is a great story. But o'seas (UK, Europe, etc) there exists a longer version of approximately 118 minutes. The added footage (actually not "added" per se, more like "dumped" from the American release) puts additional depth to both the primary and secondary characters, eg: the audience becomes privy to the estrangement between Jamie and JoBeth Williams' father. A small detail perhaps, but it provides the reason for Jamie's motivation. I saw this extended cut on broadcast television recently -- I'm hopeful that this edition will ultimately find its way unto DVD.

I didn't know that, thnx for the info.Actually,I live in Europe, and only seen the American edition of the movie.Too bad about those missing scenes. At least we got to see the "glass in the mouth scene"-heard that scene was censored out of some TV releases.I also hope that we may see the extended cut on DVD soon, you're not alone:)
It's a great movie, and I've always loved the works of Frederick Forsyth.
I've been trying to get ahold of the novel, however,in vain.:(
Have you read the book?

I just ordered this from Amazon and, apparently, it's the 118-minute release. Ergo, it may have the deleted scenes that give more depth to the character of JoBeth Williams' father.

I'm not sure if I ever read this one or not -- I did read Forsyth's "Day Of The Jackal" though......excellent, if a bit slow to build.

I've read the novel. It's excellent.

I remember reading about this film in "Soldier of Fortune" magazine and after finally seeing it, the movie is as gritty and unapologetic as the article crowed it was!
