The hand grab

i Dont understand why that german man who says he admires Marion (Deneuve) then grabs her hand and she tries to run out of the room.

what was the point of that , i didnt understand

Perhaps he meant to menace her. He grabs her hand and then he almost "squeezes" her hand! What's your opinion?

reply

he's trying to pull her towards him and she resists and then escapes.

I just saw the movie a couple of hours ago, and this is my take: The German guy sees a vulnerable woman he thinks he can dominate and tries to bully her into ... something, we can only imagine. She looks around in a panic, and flees.

in a metaphorical reading it could also be a symbol for the already declining power of the nazis they can only hold onto with sheer violence and brutality. still, the scene looks a bit weird and out of place. until it took this turn, I actually had a sort of-smile on my face, because it reminded me so much of maria tura in prof. siletsky's office in lubitsch's to be or not to be.

I have another take on this -- perhaps not the right one, but here it is: this officer is also going to kill himself, he is involved in the same conspiracy that claimed the life of his superior and Marion is the last woman her will interact with.

@transinter, that's an interesting one!
