7.4 is low

As of now (January 2009), this movie scores a 7.4 on IMDB. It's kinda low, isn't it, for a masterpiece as layered, moving and comic as this? I think it deserves at least an 8. Discuss.

Are you saying that real life isn't like the movies?

I just watched it and I think 7.4 is a fair rating, not that ratings mean all that much. I enjoyed The Last Metro, but I don't see what the big deal is. It had some interesting characters, a bit of humor and some intrigue, but I didn't come away with anything special. Then again, I don't see what the big deal is with Truffaut. I haven't seen all of his movies. The ones I have seen range from "eh, good" to "why did I watch this?". Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I can't help but think Truffaut is imporant for what he did and watching his movies outside their historical context makes them less impressive to me.

I'd say a 7.4 is at least two points too high for this ponderous, pretentious piece of French filmmaking!

I just watched it for the first time, and I do agree that a 7.4 is too low. I feel that revisiting the film will only add to my enjoyment of it, as I did not pay much attention in the beginning. I have the Criterion version, and I plan to perhaps watch the film with commentary and other supplements. Then again, I am a huge Deneuve fan, so I could be a bit biased towards the film. Nonetheless, at least an 8 in my opinion.
