When i was about 5 (I am 35 now), i remember staying at a hotel, i woke up through the night and put the TV on to find a film about people on a sort of ghost ship. There is a woman that eats something which ha an effect on her leading her to kill others if i remember correctly. Is this the film i remember watching?

You're thinking about the right film. An old lady eats some candies from a dish and suddenly turns into something like a creature. So goes a little crazy but doesn't actually kill anyone. The caption of the ship ends up strangling her.
