who/how did he get the nickname 'Doolittle'

In the movie Loretta was married to Doolittle Lynn…Tommy Lee Jones, I know how he got the nickname “Mooney”, but do they ever explain how and who gave him the name Doolittle…..

His birth name was Oliver Vanetta Lynn, Jr.

Doolittle was a nickname he got as a child and Mooney was a nickname from the fact he ran moonshine before he went to war.

Doolittle got the nickname because he did very little chores and help with the responsibilities as a child
