Why is this a movie?

Other than an excuse to promote this lady's music?

Nothing interesting, unique, or impressive happens in her life. If someone's entire life can't even fill two hours with entertainment, it shouldn't be a damn movie.

Take Purple Rain for example. If they probably went with Prince's true life story, it probably would have been a bore and sucked. So they added the club looking to drop him, drama with his girl, an adversary, and an attempted suicide.

Even movies like Ray made up stuff to keep things interesting. This movie doesn't. It just wastes your time, when you can be doing something else while listening to the same songs. Anyone who likes this movie, I hope you realize you're being exploited.

I'm sorry, but I didn't feel that I was exploited. The woman comes from a dirt poor, background lacking in education and formal music training and rises to be a country music legend. There's a very interesting story there IMO and no, I don't have Loretta Lynn in my music collection, but she is undeniably a great!๐Ÿญ

and rises to be a country music legend.
Which isn't impressive in the least. She gets to the Grand Ole Opry and they are willing to continuously book her because it's not like their venue is booked with star attractions. It's just some popular dirt club in the south. Some road stop country music singers make their way through onto to something bigger.

Being a country music star is like being an 8th grade spelling bee champ, which coincidentally, is more than enough qualification to write a country song. Overqualified, I'd say. You said it yourself. She has no formal training and it isn't necessary for country music. You just need to sound like a hick and look the part.

Where are all the eight grade spelling bee champs movies? Or do they need to marry a pedophile to get one? I guess they're still not famous enough and celebrity worship is the only excuse to prop these people up as huge "talents." Give me a break. Wake me when something interesting happens in this film. There's no conflict, growth or anything substantial in this movie.

Emma Goldman once said, โ€œSomeone has said that it requires less mental effort to condemn than to think.โ€ Looking at your posts, I think she was spot on.
There's no conflict, growth or anything substantial in this movie.
Suffice to say that seeing this film was a commercial and critical success, your opinion here really lacks any degree of substance.๐Ÿญ

reply

1) If Emma Goldman said that, she's the biggest hypocrite in history, as well as being a P.O.S. for thinking anarchy is a viable solution to anything.
2) Why are you comparing a movie to a post on a message board? As if it's supposed to have equal substance and success LOL What a stupid comparison.
3) Who cares who this movie panders to for a profit?
4) Critics have proven time and time again that their opinions are worthless. They are failures at real journalism, so they follow movie trends, create buzz for profit, or nitpick films to be provocative. They have no authority.

With an idiotic comment like that, you've just wonderfully made her point.
Why are you comparing a movie to a post on a message board?
I have no idea what you are talking about?๐Ÿญ

The Grand Ole Opry was actually the pinnacle of a country musician's career. They had truly hit the big time when they made it on stage at the Opry, and many singers spent years waiting for an opportunity to sing there.

reply

The fact that playing the Grand Ole Dirty Ass Bingo Hall is "hitting it big time" proves my point. If that's hitting it big, what is selling out Madison Square Garden, or playing Carnegie Hall? Or Wembley Stadium or the Sydney Oprah House?

Nothing this women did was impressive or the least bit interesting or entertaining, except her sick engagement arrangement. Nothing worthy of a movie.

reply

Pretty bizarre way to look at things but youre entitled to your opinion ,no matter how wrong it is. SMH

reply

And I'm sure that your life is just so much more interesting and better than hers? Rigghhhtttt! She came from a very poor family with no future and managed to make something of herself! She's world famous and very wealthy. Can you say the same? I highly doubt it. You sound like you're jealous of her! Only an envious loser would go on and on about her and this movie like you have done here.

reply

Is there a movie about me or am I asking for one? So save the stupid point you think you're making because it's not one, it's a fallacy dunces like you make when they can't grasp ideas and grasp at straws instead. And save the dime store psychology, as if you had a clue and knew what you were talking about. If I were impressed by fame and wealth, which she didn't do much to accomplish, I would have enjoyed this boring movie.

Stop pretending you have a clue, and maybe...instead of going back to celebrity worshiping, go read a damn book. One that is actually educational, and isn't some pointless story on how an unexceptional person can live the american dream, striking it rich by entertaining other unexceptional people with lame ass music.

reply

Thanks for proving my point! LOL!

reply

Its not what a film is about that is important, its how you tell it.

reply

Tell what? There is nothing to tell...If just becoming a musician is movie worthy, we're missing about 3 million other pointless boring stories like this.

What was told in this movie? She escaped poverty by singing songs with vocals any hick can do. That's a 5 minute story at the end of the news, or 3 page magazine article, at best.

This is comical, putting down country music stars.
Well, I've been to a lot of concerts and Garth Brooks put on the best show and he is a very talanted song writer.

reply

Thanks for wonderful tale of amazement. I'm sure a movie about Garth Brooks and how he selected his image of wearing a black hat would make a better movie than this, but I don't get how it relates other than it being equally pointless and full of bad music. This movie is uninteresting, and is just a vehicle to move some average talentless music. No point to it at all.

reply

You're a moron and will always be broke. Sorry.

reply

A great story with charismatic performances. One need not be a fan of country music to appreciate that. You're obviously not a fan. But your disdain for this movie is pathological. What gives?

reply

I've now watched the movie no less than 10-13 times since it came out ~ it's simply a GREAT story. (And personally, I've never been a country music fan)

The fact that it's 'true' makes it SO much better.

Jealousy shouldn't affect your opinion ! !

reply

Yes. I've heard this reply and no one has explained what makes the story so GREAT (probably because you can't explain it). It's so basic and bland. The writers did nothing to captivate the audience. It's just a documentary style reenactment of a famous person who made a decent living doing something lame - pluck three notes on a guitar and sing like a dying coyote.

What the hell can possible make you or anyone want to watch it more than once? The charisma of the actors? Well that still doesn't support the movie having a "great story." I guess it's just too simple for a person like me, and I can't understand the mind of a simple person who is easily impressed. There are so many more interesting musicians in the world who've had better movies made about them. This one is totally amateur hour.

reply

Well: Just my opinion...

Since she was a poor, innocent, & hard-working kid that rose to stardom w/ a hidden talent... which was discovered by her ~ sometimes/usual ~ ass whole of a husband..

It's just as complicated because he's as entertaining as he is hated (to myself, at least).

Even if Loretta Lynn had not become a star, films about regular people's lives are legitimate.
