There are 2 distinct versions of 'CIRCLE OF TWO'

For those who like this movie >>> how many of you are aware there are 2 different versions of this movie? <<<

I have an old Vestron Video from here in the USA that was released in 1983. This version has Kacey Cisyk singing the opening theme song 'CIRCLE OF TWO' and was scored by Bernard Hoffer with additional music by Paul Hoffert. This runs about 90 minutes. I often wondered if there was a longer version of this movie because there's credits for actors who barely appear. Well . . . there is.

I bought a UK videocassette of 'CIRCLE OF TWO' on the old VIPCO label. This version is markedly different. It runs 10 minutes longer; has more scenes and has a *different* ending entirely. The VIPCO tape also does not have the theme song by Kacey Cisyk. It's instrumental and the music credit is given entirely to Paul Hoffert.

The ironic thing is there is footage in one movie that's not in the other and some different camera angles to boot.

In other words -- the Vestron Video isn't simply a cut-down version of the longer VIPCO release. There are a few scenes that are unique to this video version that are simply not found on the longer VIPCO tape.

It would take me too long to list all the differences -- but there are many!

I've no idea which version is on DVD here in the USA or in the UK or in Australia -- but if you like the movie the U.S. Vestron Video edition and the VIPCO UK edition are WAY different.

The funny thing is, however, the movie didn't leave me with a different sort of feeling about it. The VIPCO version has a happier ending, too.

But I sure did like that opening theme song on the Vestron tape . . .

I also have the VHS tape but recorded from the now-defunct pay television service called Spectrum. Spectrum was also a UHF subscription service (competetor of ON-TV) that showed uncut movies, specials, concerts and other programming.

Basically the Spectrum recorded tape is the Vestron version of "Circle Of Two".

Dear jimp: If only I could combine BOTH tapes into 1 longer movie . . .

It would have ALL the footage!

Dear Christina_h_3000: Hello. >>> Do you mean what scenes are in the shorter version that aren't in the longer version?

I'll give you 1 example:
LONGER VERSION > After Richard Burton and Nuala Fitzgerald have the scene in the art museum with the Curator and RB storms off after the longer version cuts to a scene where they're both entering her apartment building in NY and Tatum O'Neal is sitting in a chair near the elevator.

In the shorter version after RB leaves the art museum in anger it cuts to a scene of him and Nuala Fitzgerald in a taxi and she says something like: "There was no need to attack me; I've loved you for a long time". He then laments how Tatum O'Neal's father wouldn't let him see her and then Nuala says "Well, I'd have found a way". THEN we get to scene in the apartment building lobby.

ALSO -- the ending of the shorter version stops where Richard Burton is leaving Tatum behind at the bus station and fades to black. Cue the theme song by Kacey Cisyk.

>>> I didn't think anyone would have even read that Post these days!

There's also single lines of dialogue that are missing, such as when RB and Tatum meet in the botisserie. There's also a line missing when Michael Wincott comes to breakfast and Tatum isn't interested in talking to him.

Lots more stuff like that.
