Jeremy Lovering To Helm Remake Of Horror Classic ‘The Changeling’

Screenrelish.com March 13, 2014.

He has a complete script but is in the process of deciding if it would work after recent successes of INSIDIOUS, THE CONJURING and THE WOMEN IN BLACK which were influenced by The Changeling.

“I’m really nervous about it, for obvious reasons. The original is an extraordinarily good film, and I’ve tried to take a kind of alternative point of view – doing the scenes you don’t see, the ones in between those that are in the film. The Changeling has such iconic, much-copied sequences, and obviously loads of directors, from James Wan to James Watkins and a whole bunch of others, happily acknowledge The Changeling as a massively influential film. It’s the same producers [as the original] who want to make it, and it has been a very interesting process, but I’m still trying to decide whether it’s the right thing to do or not.”

There was talk of a remake nine years ago and nothing came of it. Why would this time be any different?

Hopefully it will be left alone for a long time yet to come :)

I think that there are a few things that could be fixed in the plot. But I don't want to see it SFX'ed up and I don't want to see it overly-stylized like Woman in Black.

Enough with the jump scares and bleak-looking camera filters. Let's make a lush, beautiful horror movie for once.

Me too. However, I must confess, if a remake is released, I'll go and see it, just out of curiosity, if nothing else.

I knew there was a chance that someone would beat me to it. I agree with OmegaWolf. If this remake did come out within the next few years or so I would be the first in line to see it. I'd love to see what kind of story a different mind could tell. And in retrospect, comparison between the new and the old is typically an enjoyable past time.

Real is good. Interesting is better.

No more freaking horror movie remakes!

You can't mess with perfection. Give it to Wan and he'll throw some "oh-so-scary clown dolls" and a nu-metal soundtrack on top of it after casting Patrick Wilson as John Russell.

No. Just no.

I'd rather see more original horror flicks like Session 9 or Martyrs being released than all of these classics remade. Leave them alone, Hollywood.
