Ringu
The Japanese novel and movie borrow quite a lot from this film. The body thrown down a well over which a house is built. The hero digging down into the well, and, oh well, there are quite a few similarities.

shareYes, I recognized the similarities as well. Also the fact that in each case, the ghost wasn't appeased by the discovery of his/her remains - just got angrier!
shareI first saw the film in a classroom. My film studies professor showed us The Changeling and Ringu back to back I think so that we could see their similarities more easily. I ended up loving The Changeling more out of the two, but I admire both of them for how effectively scary they are.
shareMay I ask what class you were taking where the prof treated you to two movies like this back to back?

House. My room. Cant walk. My medal. My father. Father, dont!
The class was called "Film Studies". As far as I know, they no longer teach it at the school I went to. Which is a real damn shame because it was my favourite. During the first half of the semester, we were learning about movie "Tropes" which is a story element which appears often in certain genres of film. My teacher thought TC was a great example of what common horror movie tropes are and I'd say he was right because afterwards, every haunted house film since has borrowed something from The Changeling, whether it's aware of it or not.
I really have to give thanks to my Prof because if not for him and his class, it's very likely I would have never seen TC. I won't ever forget the experience of watching it as a class. The atmosphere was similar to seeing it in a theatre. It was an awesome first encounter with the film. I'll never forget it.
Did you watch it with the lights off? Did anyone hide under their desk? 😄

i didn't watch ringu but the ring is much better than the changeling.
sharei was immediately reminded of The Ring when that scene came with the drowning of the boy
so many movies, so little time
Yes. And to add further to the connection, when Ringu was remade as the Ring, it was set in ... Seattle.
