They invite Alex and his...

"... mentally challenged buddy to join them at a decadent suburban party"

What in the hell were they thinking here??

Always be yourself. Unless you can be Batcatt, then always be Batcatt.

I wondered that as well at first. I know the '80s were a different time and all, but even then it seems silly to invite two complete strangers into your home (especially someone like Alex who I thought acted like a condescending jerk from the start). I wondered if there is actually anyone in real life that naive. Then by the end I realized it was all part of their plan from the very beginning. That Alex and his friend were the foolish ones for falling for it, not the other way around.

I think Alex was the only one they wanted to bring with em to the party.
The blonde guy even ask Alex if Ricky have to come along…
Ricky was just unlucky to follow Alex, since the partygang didn’t have any grudge against him in the first place.

Exactly. Throughout the film, there's moments where I just rolled my eyes and asked myself why any sensible person would invite this creepy stranger to their party, why they didn't try harder to overpower Alex and Ricky, why they didn't try harder to sneak for a weapon or break ranks when they were alone with Ricky... and then we're treated to the party goers' true intentions and the end and these things make sense.

Can I trade in the children for more cash?
